Leg Weights

December 1st, 2008 · No Comments

My weight has been up and down the last several days - from 79.7 to 82 back to 79.8 and finishing this morning at 80.8kg. Forgetting about numbers for a second, I definitely feel a little slimmer than when I started 2-3 weeks ago, so I know I am getting benefit - but I still have a way to go. I need do nothing more than try a pair of what used to be my “tight” trousers but are now my “unwearable” trousers to feel that I’m still 5kg from my goal.

In the supermarket today I saw “leg weights” - small 250g weights that strap around the ankles. Since they were cheap (literally $1 each), I decided to buy them. I walk about an hour home every night and I’d like that walk to be a little bit tougher. It will be interesting to see whether an extra half kilo will make me feel and different - or whether it’s is too little.

Days 12-14 report

A long weekend in Tokyo, and I really thought I’d blown it - my weight on Monday was back up to 81kg. As I lay in bed this morning before getting up, I was both dreading what the scales would say and cursing myself for the setback.

When I did gather the courage to step on the scales, though, I stared in disbelief. 79.7kg - not still at 81 as I had expected.

In honesty, I’m puzzling to understand this myself - the gradual rise from Saturday morning to Monday, and then suddenly down to my lowest weight yet of the last two weeks. They say God moves in mysterious ways - but not quite as mysterious as my fat.

The only reasons I can think of are not conclusive. I did a lot of walking and exercise yesterday, and my food yesterday was less stodgy (not so much bread and carbs) than the weekend. Maybe the combination of good exercise and the stodge disappearing from my system helped things, but I honestly thought the fat was back to stay.

Fingers crossed I stay below 80 over the next few days.

Days 10-11 report

It’s funny the way losing weight works. On days when I think I’ve done “really well”, my weight wont budge. On days when I think I’ve done badly and I’m bound to gain, sometimes the opposite happens and my weight falls.

And so describes the last two days. Yesterday my weight was constant again - the same for four days running. Last night, day 11, I ended up going out to a British bar and drinking and eating myself silly. I walked the hour home after but I still expected to be up this morning. Not so - down to 80.4kg, the big shift that I predicted follows a flat period. I just hope tomorrow doesn’t return me back to the 81’s!

Days 8-9 report

November 19th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been pretty much flat the last two days, weighing in at 81.2kg again this morning. That’s both good and bad - good that I’m not going up, bad that I’m not going down. I reckon that the next few days will see a jump in either direction - either dropping another kilo or going back up another kilo - since that’s generally what happens when I’m flat. Weight doesn’t seem to come off or go on 0.2kg at a time with me, it tends to be flat and then jumps.

Foodwise, I’ve been doing relatively well. I’m into a pattern now at lunchtime of picking up a hot meal, around 300kcal, and a piece of fruit, and eating them with some tomato juice and decaf. It’s enough to keep me going all day, and getting calories from fruit is good for giving the body energy to fight fat.

In the evenings, I’m walking home from work every night for exercise - that’s about an hour. While I’d love to be a gym person and have a perfect bod, I’m not. Walking is something I love and so it’s easy to do it without feeling that I’m scheduling “exercise”. It would take me 30 minutes to get home anyway, so walking the way not only keeps me fit but adds only 30 minutes.

Days 5-7 report

A good weekend - I weighed in this morning at 81.2kg, which is almost a kilo down on last week. Unfortunately I tend to have a habit of doing well at weekends and then shooting back up as the week starts. I’m not entirely sure why that should be, but I need it to not happen today!
