What Is My Goal - And Why?

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

A recent study was performed on a hundred people. They got 50 people to write down their goals and the other 50 to do nothing accept try and achieve their goals. What the study showed was quite amazing, the first 50 people who wrote down their goals and went through them everyday over a period of 3 months - 85% of them reached there goals. From the other 50,  only a very small percentage (8%) only achieved there goals.

I found that quote while randomly surfing around today. No source was listed, so it’s difficult to know whether the exact figures are correct or not - but the principle is something I’ve heard many times: Writing down and being clear of your goals increases your chances of reaching them.

Every day when I weigh myself, I am immediately reminded of what my goal is - to reach and maintain a weight of 74kg. Every day when I write on this website, I’m further reminded of it. I’m keeping my goal clear to me every day.

I’m also very clear as to the reasons why I have this goal:

  • When I’m 74-75kg, I can wear a slimmer waist trousers (32 inches) and a medium t-shirt, rather and having to wear larger size when I’m a few kilos more
  • When I’m 74-75kg, I can see bone structure in my face, rather than a round blob
  • When I’m 74-75kg, I don’t feel the need to be continually adjusting my t-shirt to hide my stomach
  • When I’m 74-75kg, I don’t look at myself in the mirror and think “I can see man boobs”

In short, when I’m at my goal weight, I can wear the clothes that I want to wear in the sizes that I want to wear them, and I feel that I look fantastic. That feeling is awesome.

The last few days, I’ve been able to see the bone structure return to my face, which means I can now see that I’m reaching my goal by looking at my body, not just by looking at the scales. That feeling is awesome too.
