75.1kg, 74.4kg - Irregular Schedule Ahead

April 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Today’s weight: 74.4kg
Yesterday’s weight: 75.1kg

Now that my week of vacation is over, it should be back to a regular routine. Unfortunately for routine (but fortunately otherwise), this week there’s a public holiday in Japan (tomorrow), and next week there are two public holidays (Monday and Tuesday). I usually do better at weekends than during the week, partly because I’m more active, so hopefully that will be carried over into public holidays also, and I can return back to my goal of 74.0kg.

75.9kg -> 73.9kg -> 75.4kg -> 75.2kg

April 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Today’s weight: 75.2kg

It’s been a rollercoaster week - not just with my brother’s final days in Japan, but with my weight too. The 75.9kg four days ago was caused by eating Okonomiyaki late at night and so was expected, and the 73.9kg the next day was caused by staying out very late drinking, and so being dehydrated the next morning. I seem to be settling down to just over 75kg on the new scales.

From comparisons not just with myself but with others’ weight, it seems like the new scales are definitely registering weight a little higher than the old ones, up to half a kilo. Like the old scales, they are also likely to register slightly different results if I weigh myself two or three consecutive times - for example, today I had readings of 75.2kg, 75.1kg, and 74.9kg.

I’ll be continuing to monitor the scales until I feel comfortable with the readings. Expect daily weight postings to resume in the next couple of days.

74.8kg - New Scales, New Start

April 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Today’s weight: 74.8kg

Surprising as it may seem, you can weigh yourself on two different scales one after the other and get wildly different results. It is recommended, therefore, that you always use the same scales when weighing yourself, and don’t switch between different sets.

My old scales broke, so I had no choice but to buy a new set - and unfortunately, with this being Japan and me being limited in the options for buying, I couldn’t try out the scales before buying. If I could have tried out different sets, I would have taken a consensus weight from a number of scales and chosen scales which consistently read that weight.

Today is my first reading with the new scales - I don’t yet know how consistent and accurate they are, so I’ll be watching that over the next few days. I have a feeling that they are registering my weight a little heavier than the old scales were - maybe 0.3~0.5kg - but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since it provides more of a challenge.

Broken Scales

April 20th, 2008 · No Comments

I woke up this morning to find my scales broken. I’ve no idea how it happened - the LCD is cracked, which either means I dropped something on the scales, or my fat frame caused it to smash. I’m pretty sure it’s not the latter ;)

As a result, until I get new scales, I wont be able to weigh myself daily, and I don’t know my weight today. I’m pretty sure I’m no longer 72kg though. I can feel that I weigh more.

It’s quite difficult to find scales which measure accurately and consistently. I’ll be looking the next few days, but I don’t want to just run out and buy the first pair I see - accuracy is more important.

72.0kg - Two Kilos Under Goal

April 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Today’s weight: 72.0kg

A shocking two kilos under goal today - but I believe this is mostly the result of going out clubbing until very late last night, and so being dehydrated this morning. My weight will most likely rise back up to around goal level naturally in the next few days.
